Meteor

All the parameters were set long ago. Only the positive axis exists in this fourth dimension.
The future, like the past, moves forward without hesitation.
I lean my ear toward time as it flows, and somewhere within that passage
a star hangs alone in the hand of God.

Walking alone at midnight, toward the northwest—
in the pine forest at the borderlands of consciousness, I see
the first flint stone exiled by the church.
Faith catches fire; your overclocked wish, your body polished by despair,
this is the last resistance offered to the world.

Still we must go on, even when dust fills the friction.
Velocity: the resolve that refuses regret.
I remember the brilliance that will one day belong to you.
Eternity—when the crowd begins to pray:
“All is well. Death has never existed.”

From somewhere far away comes the faint roar of a lion.
The error of walking alone, the error of parameters, the error of untimeliness.
The pine trees sway together in a solemn tribunal;
your crimes are read aloud in the wind,
every handwriting already too hurried.

Everything had long been prepared, except
impermanence randomly carving the shape of impermanence.
Looking upward from the earth, the universe remains silent.
Eternal thought fractures into a few strokes of the instant.
The pine needles tremble once and fall still—
and you cut across the sky.
